With the rebuild of the lock, a radar based VTS system has been installed making remote control of the lock remarkably easier.

The software of in-innovative navigation GmbH not only detects reliably all vessels in the area, but also includes an automatic warning function: As soon as a vessel  crosses a virtual line 200 meters away indicating thereby that it wants to enter the lock and not just passing on Süderelbe, an acoustical and visual signal informs the lock control center. With the new system lock, service and lock scheduling are in alignment with the modernization of Port of Hamburg.
